I just purchased a 1975 Stingray. It was running great, and then I refueled. I put 93 in it. Thats what I put in my 05, a mile down the road, it started running really rough, and stalled. I was able to get home, but could the gasoline have done this? Is there something I should be adding ?
Get the gas out of your tank, fill it with some new gas, and possibly a little octane boost, until it clears up. If the gas was the problem. Try putting new gas straight down the carb to see if that makes a difference, or perhaps you have some other problem, maybe with the carb, lines, filter or pump, you might have to check all areas, to be sure.
Dont add anything siphon five or so gallons out of the tank and look it over for water .if it looks bad .first call the # on the gas pump(on every gas pump) you got the fuel from and they will come out and dip the tanks. And if its bad they will lock out the fuel.so nobody else gets that fuel.
If the fuel looks like it has water in it it should not be a problem, drain the tank refuel .
then pull the line at the carb run a hose into a good fuel container and turn the car over a couple of seconds dont unhook the coil to keep the car from starting.if the car trys to start stop turning the motor over. then just bump the key several times so the new fuel has a chance to get to the carb.the fuel filter and the float bowl area might need re-placed and cleand out . have you ever had the top off of your carb?its no big deal the float bowl might be filled with water shutting off the fuel.Good luck if that does nothing check the Distributer coil wires the ground came off of mine this summer and thank goodness i wiggled the wires enough to get home and I just replaced the dist.(MSD surefire)better responce and take off.
