Lindsay Lohan, 24, Charlie Sheen and Paris Hilton got their names and faces all over the news because they went to jail for a few short weeks or days for acting out, negative behavior, resisting arrest, cocaine possession, being drunk and disorderly, not to mention their insolent attitude.
What do you know about these men?
Justin Allen, 23
Brett Linley, 29
Matthew Weikert, 29
Justus Bartett, 27
Dave Santos , 21
Chase Stanley, 21
Jesse Reed, 26
Matthew Johnson, 21
Zachary Fisher, 24
Brandon King, 23
Christopher Goeke, 23
Sheldon Tate, 27
Do you recognize any of their names? No? None of them starred in a movie or made a record album, hit a homerun or scored a 2 point conversion or did a celebration in the end zone after scoring a touchdown. None of them brags about "showcasing their talents for their fans" while being paid millions and millions of dollars.
Did that help? No? Well then I should tell you that they are all Marines who gave their lives for YOU this week. They died for honor and country. They are all heroes of the highest magnitude. How much did you read about them?
Why doesn't the Media print or even report our fallen Military? I for one am proud of my Son for enlisting in the Navy.
Thank you Al
"on behalf of a grateful nation".......... very touching post----my list of names I remember from 41 years ago----same names just a different time in history. Please be rest assured that these heroes have now reported to their final duty station. And as the last verse of the Marine Corps Hymn says are now "gurarding the streets of Heaven".
You said what most of us are thinking every day. Marines from units like 3/5 are being wounded or killed almost every day in Afghanistan, but you'll never know their names or what they have done for this country. But a Congress woman who sits in a comfy office gets shot and her name gets plastered all over every news channel and newspaper for a month. The media cares more about the well being of people in Egypt, Sudan, and Haiti than they do about our own service members.
Attended the funeral of Marine Cpl Derek Wyatt last month in Arlington, never made the news, but the turnout reminded me that we are still a country of patriots. Full escort by the local police and Rolling Thunder riders. The sides of the streets and highways covered in American flags and lines with police, firefighters, and supporters. Was definitely an eye opening experience, and proves that despite the medias support, American is still behind the Marines and Soldiers on the front line

Al, You are spot on. Been saying it for years (with regards to the media). Pretty touchy subject for all but especially so for some of us that have direct relations with these warriors. God Bless all of them past and present!! Great post!! HOOAH!!!
Thanks for the great post Al.
Yes I do recognize a name on that list "Brandon King, 23" was a neighbor of mine and he will be greatly missed. My only child is in the Air Force and we are well aware of our service men and woman's sacrifices. Godspeed to them all and God bless.
Our son just got back from his fourth deployment, he's been in for 11 years. My wife started and has run a non-profit called Keystone soldiers(Keystonesoldiers.com) for the last 9 years, sending care packages to soldiers from all over the country who are deployed abroad. A big to this post, few remember what many have given.
Well said Al,this is what our country has turned into worrying about a bunch of overpaid worthless Hollywood junkies and how many times they go to rehab and who they are banging and other nonsense, while our military defends our freedom by giving their lives.Instead of these liberal Hollywood skumbags raising money to save a tree and other bull****,raise money for our soldiers and their families as they deserve every dollar and than some.
Sorry, if this might offend anyone, but I do not think this belongs to C3 General discussion. I was in military service myself & my country is US ally, with troops delpoyed in Iraq & Afghanistan. Anyhow, there might be a number of similarly sensitive topics for the society, but none of them ends up in this forum section - mostly they are removed by moderators. Not because they are "not worth" to be here. The purpose of having forum structure is to keep all the information clustered in relevant pieces. Time to time I see military servicemen related posts appear in C3 and other technical discussion forums and nobody is even saying anything about the fact, that those messages should be posted elsewhere. Again, with all due respect.

Great to hear of the actual support of our troops by attendees to honor the fallen who made the ultimate sacrifice.
One has got to keep hollywood & the media in perspective. Actors are just that: People who "fake it for a living." And they are good at faking it.
The media seems mostly to look for ratings. Not to support or promote things done that in reality are either good or great.
Thank you dear servicemen & women that you don't fake it for a living... for instead doing things that in reality are GOOD and GREAT.

Another sad note is our President ordered flags at half mast for the Arizona shooting victims, and all the soldiers, firemen, police, sheriffs, deputies who are killed in the line of duty don't rate at least the same
During back to back Afganistan deployments in '09 and '10, I had the unfortunate pleasure of knowing some men who didnt make national news yet, still payed the ultamate price.
All gave some and some gave all. Some stood true for the red white and blue but some had to fall.
