I think its nice to have it working correctly and they're not very expensive other than the correct trumpet.

If you want your car all original then you must restore the alarm also, otherwise it's up to you. I ditched mine. When was the last time you saw anybody actually paying attention to a car alarm going off?

You can remove the lock from the rear and have a key made or if your handy you can make your own.
It is of course your car but I don't think I would do anything permanent when referring to ditching the alarm.
The system is simple, its easy to fix or easy to disable and leave sit idle leaving the stock appearance in case you want it to be operational in the future.

Willcox carries them for about $20. Alarm switch cylinder with key.

Factory alarms on the 70 models were optional equipment -- the original owner wanted it and paid extra it.

FWIW: I would keep it.

Yes..Mine didn't work when I first purchased my car so I went to Radio Shack and got a can of contact cleaner and sprayed the heck out of the switch ran the key back and forth a few times and it has worked ever since.

My system worked except it made a clicking sound when activated.....cost about $200 to have the original horn rebuilt.

Alarm Flasher & Switch in storage compartment behind passenger seat.

I think it is pretty cool to have a working factory alarm on a 41 year old car..

keep it..

clocks, fiber optics, reverse lockout, clutch safety, TCS, astro ventilation, and factory alarm... how many people can brag that all of this is working on their car?

I had problems with my '79 - AND both times EVERYONE paid attention to it ! First time I was driving in heavy traffic when it went off and the second time was about 11PM in a residential area. :bb Unlike new car alarms mine uses the car horn to alert everyone that something is wrong. I tried buggering around with it , but its too embarrassing when the damn thing goes off. I disconnected it.

If your NCRS I would do it. Otherwise no big deal. I put keyless entry in so you don't scratch the paint on the door.

am trying to get the alarm operational, but not sure where to start
should the orange wire have 12v on it at all times?
if so, where is it fed from? (in body harness splice)
i got nothing, is there a fuse in the system anywhere?
i know the horn works, as i put 12v across it and got a face full of dirt
where does the ring terminal by the horn in the diagram go?
is that the ground for the horn?
thanks

Yes. Purchase the assembly instruction manual (AIM). The AIM has diagrams showing the installation of the alarm system.

should the orange wire have 12v on it at all times? It should have power 24-7 if its still plugged in and the fuse is not blown.
if so, where is it fed from? (in body harness splice)The orange is in the harness and ends up at the fuse box , and plugs into the BAT tap beside the courtesy lights fuse.
