Default Shurhold Polisher/Buffer

This month's Vette magazine has an ad for a Shurhold random orbital polisher/buffer with several bonus products thrown in for a pretty good price. Anyone familiar with this product?

I use a Porter Cable 7424 and never heard of this company before. There is supporting vendor that sells these.

Did some web research and it looks like a Griot's machine for $129. Griot's however is 7amp and 850w and the Shurhold 4.2amp and 500w. It does have a GFI on the cord as they apparently are known in the marine community.

It looks to be an ok machine. The black pad is for applying wax, not paint correction and they do supply a carrying case. You can buy regular pads (ie. Lake Country, etc) since they provide the velcro backing plate. (5inch)

IMHO, I would try and buy a PC, Meguiars,Griots, etc getting a stronger machine for @the same money. Sometimes there are specials.

Default Shurhold Polisher

Thanks for opening the discussion on our polisher.

Shurhold has been around since 1973. We design and manufacture all of our own products. The Dual Action Polisher has now been on the market for 2 years. With a 20' cord, 3 included handle options, a carry bag and a GFCI plug it is one of the best designed tools of its type on the market.

What are you trying to do - restore the finish, or wet sand and machine polish your car? Does your car have a new clearcoat finish, or factory? Or, are you looking to making waxing your car easier? Ask yourself these questions first.

Burning the finish with a rotary buffer is way overblown IMO. I've been polishing for years and I can count on one hand I've buffed through a clearcoat finish. If it's an older finish, any buffing will be removing some of the finish surface anyway. I don't doubt that this would be easier to use, but that might also mean that it could potentially take way longer too ...with a 6" pad and a more gentle operation. For less intensive work, this might be just the ticket though. Good luck,

Mark G

Thanks for the question. While most of our products are made here in our factory in Palm City, Florida. (You can see a tour here :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2xxBQwMERo ) our polisher is made in China. We did all design and spec work here in the USA at our facility and we have staff members that oversee production in China. We then distribute and ship from our Palm City distribution facility.
