Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and I have a question regarding the title for a 73 I'm interested in buying. It's a 73 coupe with a 350 with auto trans.
Car is in good running cond. but needs front bumper cover and paint job on whole car.Asking price is $6.500. Car is sold with bill of sale only
which I have no problem with. If I decide to sell the car a year or two down the road after restoring it will I lose money by not having a title?
Thanks and I'm sorry if this question is in wrong place.
Where are you located??? In PA we need a title in order to register and pay the tax. Does the car have a "Salvage" title? I think you should call your local DOT or Title Notary. Don't give any money until you fully understand what your state law requires.
Hi john.
I live in Georgia and it's legal to regester any car of that year without title. You do need to have the car inspected by the local Sheriff's office for VIN and it must be road worthy. You can then regester and tag the car. I'm just wondering if it would be worth less after a restoration without a Title.
Thanks for your responce.
Why doesn't the car have a title ? I certainly would be hesitant to buy a car without a title , so I could guess and say it would bring less money after restoration.

titles are worth the money.....bills of sale are ok for cars to be stripped or made into vintage racers....thats all.....a good deal with no title is in the end not a good deal.....make them get the title then buy it

I think what we always had to do is apply and register the car for an abandoned vehicle title
...then after a certain time period(a few months), if no one claimed a right to own the car, a new title was given
Hello
I think you got the answer to your question. If you are going to buy the car to restore it and resell it, then you will have the new buyers asking the same questions you have now. And to put the money into restoring the car, and then trying to resell it with only a bill of sale may cause many people, me included, to look elsewhere.
do your research and see what the car would sell for with title and then offer him 50% of that.. if you want to do the title aquisition yourself.. there are services out there that will eventually get you a title via ethical and unethical ways to acquire the title.
bottom line is if the seller does not have a title then he has to take the price hit on the car.. if he really owns the car he will realize that he can get lots more money for the car if he has a title. but if he is just being lazy, then he has to take the price hit.. or hope for a ignorant buyer.
if you are interested, then tell him you are interested but to call you when he has a title.
