Default Dual Spal teperature switch choices

For those of you that are running dual spal setups, what temperature switch(es) are you running? My kit came with a single, 195 degree switch which I installed in the driver's side head. Both fans are connected to this switch. I was contemplating putting a higher temp switch in the other head (210). I know others are running the second fan on direct ground so it runs as soon as the ignition comes on. Any consensus?

Also, I'm trying to verify the running temperature of the coolant against the temperature gauge with an IR thermometer. Is the upper rad hose a good approximation? Will this give a false, low reading? Is there a better place to compare it from?

Checking the temp on the intake manifold near the thermostat housing or near the head should give you a more accurate reading. You could also check it with the IR gun near the temp sensor in the head, but you may read some of the heat the exhaust manifold or header is giving off.

Some pretty interesting options there. I thought about a variable controller especially since I can't decide on an appropriate range.

I can't remember which model I have...I can't look at it now..but I think it's the dk50. I believe it has 3 different temp settings(as max settings) . It's very compact. btw, it comes with a temp sensor that he suggests mounting near the inlet in between the fins, for a good reading.

I got the dual kit with the radiator. The 195 degree switch seems to be the most common and recommended. Fans on at 195 and off at 175 is the set up. The switch is in the radiator.

195 switch wired to both fans with a 180 Hi-Flow thermostat (BeCool radiator). Fans never run on the highway and cycle in town. Usually about a minute for them to cool the radiator down and shut off.

IMHO, simple is best. No fan running all the time, no dual temp switches. Works great for the last 10 years.

Rob I would not be running YOUR engine that hot...especially with AC.

Zirgo makes a temp switch that is a "180* on 175* off". I use this one and it works well BUT if you mount it in the radiator tank like the Dewitts rad has, it will actually kick on at 185*, off at 178*. For the most part, my car hovers in the 175-180* range. If it idles enough to get to 185-186*, the MK8 fan kicks on and it's below 180* in 30 secs or so.

Ok but I wish the fan kicked on right at 180* and off at 170-175*. I would have to move the sensor to the intake to get it closer to 180. Gonna leave it as is for now though.

Funny you mention that, because, I know that is the specs of the switch spal/dewitt provide. But my engine is not getting that hot. I have checked it several times with an IR temp gun. I have not seen it over 180. Makes me wonder if I got a lower temp switch than what they said was provided. It was already mounted, so I could not check it. Yes when those fans come on, its about a minute or less sometimes and it pulls the temp down, you can watch the temp gauge drop. I have a LED indicator to know when they are on since I cannot hear them due to the exhaust : - ). I have a 180 stat. I know your running a cooler stat than that.
I have not been using the AC either. I think my compressor has a leak. It keeps oozing this oil out. I guess that is the pag oil.

I run dual Spals with their controller. One fan is variable speed. Slow at 175 and full on at 190. Second fan runs full at 195 or when the AC is on. System works great.
