Mig with gas. Cleaner weld. It's easier to learn with. Buy a good one. There IS a difference in the good and cheap welders.
I have four of them and the Linclon and the Snap On are the best of the four I have, but there are several good welders around.
Rule of thumb, inexpensive is cheap.

The flux core are a waste of money, you'll end up with poor welds that even look like chicken ****.
Look for a used Miller or Lincoln, plenty around for good prices.
I use a Millermatic 250 and it will do about anything.

Not really sure what to get but 1 thing for sure it will be with gas .
Hey I looked on the Map your about 2 hrs away from me . If you ever get near Columbus or the area get me A heads up and we can cruze the Vettes.I get over to Daytons air show in the summer we took my 75 and my buddys 2003 last Yr had A blast.
Thanks for the help. what kind of money on the welder do you think I can get it for I checked into the bottle and they have several sizes for under $100. bucks so that should be no problem.Ive seen them around $550.incluces all but bottle and the gas would that be good enough? I can go 110/220 it doesnt matter whats best as far as that goes??

Depends on what you'll be welding. They make some nice 110volt rigs these days. If used correctly they will do most of what you'll be doing.
I have one 220 I never seem to use. I normally use the 110 because it's more portable and I can get power to it most anywhere. Just don't go cheap or you'll always be wanting a better one.
The most difficult thing to get new welders to do is SLOW down and let the welder work. Get the wire speed and power setting correct, prep the parts well and get enough light in the area.
If it sounds like frying bacon it's most likely a good weld.

Thanks for all the help. Hey my girl just told me we have some friends in Oxford. what do you think about A Hobart 500500 Handler 140 115 Volt 25 to 140 amp gas/Metal/Arc single phase.
will need the bottle and the co2/ argone gas mix but what do you think of the hobart I read 26 comments and all of them were good ,it seems to have everything but the diff wire for diff metal.$500.00 dollars and free shipping. so by the time I get the bottle and filled it should be about 125.00 more that put the entire rig at around $625.00 think its a toy or a good one ????

Hobart makes good stuff. The small tank isn't very expensive. I have the small tank on one of the 110 migs so I can move it around, and the tall tank for the Tig rigs.
One thing that comes in very handy is a cutting torch. Medium tank can be bought reasonable.
Your next move might be a Plasma Cutter. Man that speeds up metal work
I live outside of the east side of Oxford. Next to Indiancreek creek. I have an automotive machine shop there. Also teach firearms classes. I do a bunch of the concealed carry classes. I teach firearms classes at the local Police Academy also.
