i have an 05 ford escape. i see lots of pickups towing cars. i was wondering if my escape can tow a corvette. [safely and legally] thanks, Nutsy.
Highly unlikely, the Corvette weight is just over 3,000 lbs. A trailer to safely carry the Corvette will weigh around 2,000 lbs That is 5,000 minimum. It might be able to acutally get it moving and pull a steady speed but braking is different. Plus you should have at minimum of 10% better to have 15% tongue weight. That is 500 to 750 lbs. Good luck with what you decide to do. Al

Short answer NO. It has a max tow rating of 3500 lbs. Most Corvettes are pretty close to that weight. With a trailer and rig you will be way over the capacity. If yo uare towing a very short distance maybe jus tto move it. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I elected not to tow my car with it. To short a wheel base and it was right at max towing ability. Borrowed a crew cab Hemi powered Dodge, barely knew it was there. Got 14 mpg towing for 4 hours.

Two things come to mind right away... 1) You're not talking about hauling firewood so keep your payload in mind here. Is it worth the risk (even for the short haul?) and 2) No matter how careful *you* are, it's the other hazards on the public road that you cannot control. That said, you have to be able to stop safely.I'll not bore you with my "thought I was going to die" story of a trailer receiver that broke loose. Just don't.
Hello
The Escape doesnt appear to have the towing capacity to tow the vette on a trailer. I would agree with most here that the combined weight would be around 5000 pounds. It might be ok once it got going, but you might end up damaging the Escapes drivetrain with all the extra weight.

When I rented a trailer to haul my '69 Corvette to my new home, the rental place was adamant that I have at least a ¾ ton pick up truck. It's more than pulling power, it's the ability to stop, and to not have the tow vehicle overpowered by the trailer/load. Be safe
