Good day everyone,

It's been a year now since I bought my CE and want to start with some repairs and such. I read an article about not doing anything to your car except drive it and wash it for 6 months before doing anything to the car. This time frame was suggested to start compiling a list of things you want to get fixed.

As I read post from this site I noticed that some are very knowledgeable and respect your thoughts and suggestions.

I have the usual things like a cracked dash and faded interior but don't want to spend my money on items that I feel don't really need replacing at this time but focus more on either things that are not going to show just by driving it.

What I was thinking about taking some pictures of areas that may require service for a 29yo car. Anyone care to suggest some items to look for and I could take some pictures and get feedback? The car is pretty much stock.

Look first, at all your safety issues, like belts, brakes, fuel lines, etc.
Check for any wear or leaks, in those areas.
That would be a good start.
As for faded interior, they can always be redyed with only just a little talent. Alot cheaper than replacing.
Get a GM service manual for your car, it will also help guide you through alot of the basic service needs.

Take pics of things you see which you feel could use improvement or repair. While these old cars share a lot of common maladies, actual work to be done will vary from car to car.

As Oldsarge suggested, the GM chassis service manual will be helpful. You will also find the assembly instruction manual (AIM) to be handy. Order a reproduction owner's manual if you do not have an original.

thanks sarge and mike,

first off i don't have the proper setup or tools to do all the work. living in a condo makes it hard to work on your vehicles and am limited to working on it in a single car garage. if anyone knows of any good mechanics near lakeland fl it would be very helpful. someone that is trusted here and hopefully a forum member.

the car came with the service manual which i love!

i've done most of the basic checks and some things i would like to tackle are the steering. there is lots of play in the wheel and looking at the parts makes it hard to tell where the problem comes from.

the other is i've heard that the xfire has idle problems and such and see that there are kits to rebuild the TB's. is that something that isn't hard and a rookie could do?

any special areas to look at that this year had to watch out for?

tia
