Supposed to be trans. Those numbers/letters don't look exactly right. Do you have a smallblock automatic?
(Having trouble reading backwards?)

Yes, base 300hp engine with turbo 400 trans, I think the trans code is AV0502W which is on the right hand side directly under the Vin number.

I think that number (AV0502W) is the rear axle number

AV - posi 3.08 ratio
05 - May
02 - 2nd day of month
W - Warren plant

Thanks guys, have the answers to my questions, one final remark regarding the codes on my protecto plate, rear axel code is AV0502W, if I looked at the code list correctly the code for my s/b engine with the 3.08 ratio should be AL, AV is the code for the b/b engine with the 3.08 ratio, do you think this is an example of a car going down the assembly line and a part that was to go on the car was not available so the workers installed the next best thing?? we all know that the assembly line was not going to stop, guess I will just have to check when the car is delivered around the middle of April, besides was there a difference in the 3.08 ratio between the s/b and b/b engine??

No. Much more likely to be a typo error by the fellow filling out the factory portion of the POP.

Mike, good thought, when it comes off the truck this code will be one of the first things I check and post here on the Forum.
