I have aluminum wheels on my 80 that someone had chromed at some point. Any suggestions on how to go about removing the chrome and polishing the wheels back to original finish? Is it even worth trying?

What shape is the chrome in? Any consideration to trading for non-chromed wheels? I'd be interested. Pic enclosed of my polished aluminum wheels currently on my 82.

You would never make it work, not worth the effort. Sell or trade them out.
I have the same corvette wheels in the original stainless fnish with the centered painted black. Wlling to trade even and pay the shipping for both sets if both of us like the others wheels. Of course this would be wheels only and not the tires.
My wheels are in very good shape and I try to keep them clean as often as possible. living in Florida, we dont put up with road salt etc. Please let me know asap and lets get thius going if we both agree. You can email me at robinsonimaging@hotmail.com
I can also post pictures by monday night. You can see a picture from a distance in the C3 general section under the heading of "show us your 76 corvettes" My car is on poge 2 near the bottom under the name "sweeet76"
Check with a plater, they strip chrome off of steel, pot metal and aluminum all the time. You can polish them yourself, or have the plater do it. I just had 68-72 wiper grill, that had been chrome plated striped, it cost $55.00.
A set of good used wheels will cost you $400 or more, and you'll probably still need to polish them. A new set will set you back about a grand. What's it going to cost to ask a plater, call a couple and see what they want to do it.
