You guessed it... 78 trans am... part of the reason the vette took so long to get to this stage... I was building that one first... its pretty nice for a trans am... I find there is a fine line between cheesey and looking good with that car... but it turned out pretty tasteful... The pic was from last sept... if you can look past my wife and I its actually a pretty sweet picture... lol

Going to start working mostly on the vette now... will try and take pics often... At the moment trying to fab up a rostiserie... just figure the time spent on that would save me laying on my back for hours on end...I figure the under coating gotta go first... and running new brake lines and fuel lines on the frame..The 5.3 never came to be... but a 6.0l did... not sure if I wanna run it as fuel injection or buy the intake and msd box and run it with a carb keep a bit of old school look to it.....

Default Restorations

Man I love this Forum! The information provided is mostly always spot on even with the random tongue and cheek sarcasm. I used to haunt the halls of the Dodge Power Wagon Forum when I restored a 1949 B1PW Power Wagon and the wealth of information offered on these forums is worth its weight in gold. My thanks go out to all of you as I have begun my 74 Vette project. The only comment I would offer to the "old timers" is please try and remember that not everyone is as savvy as you when it comes to asking a question and many are not nearly as computer literate as you when it comes to searching for information that may have previously been addressed. There are very few who actually "know it all" and the rest of us are very interested in learning!

So given the responses so far, do you think you'll pull the trigger on the convertible? Interesting comment regarding the expenses that lay ahead but we all know you will wind up upside down when it's all over. The hunt is challenging, the project even more so. Let us know which one you get and post pictures of the project as it goes along. That's a great looking TA you have and a very pretty wife! Congratulations, as I don't think it's been all that many years?

Wow, that rear quarter removed looks very familiar. Luckily the bonding strip looks like it held up nicely, that will make the bonding much much easier with regard to alignment.

Easy to be a little freaked when you remove a panel, but so far looks like you are fearless (I am not sure I could/would have done the birdcage fix, I am glad mine was not as extensive)

So... since I have the car this far apart... does anyone think it might be worth while to clean and spray some lizard skin (the heat blocking version) on all of the underside... even on the inside of the rear panels?.. or waste of cash?...

I have heard good things about Lizard Skin. There are several forum members that posted good results.

Right now I'm waiting on some por 15 paint stripper and some sanding discs i ordered off of EPay... so i started to take a part rear suspension and start cleaning up and making note of what I need to replace... Guy who had it before me I'm sure he just used what ever rusty bolt he could find that was the right length... lol... so... needless to say i need some repairs there as well...
