Putting in new carpet that I got from Willcox today. The old carpet was cut out for the seat belt cover plates on the floor. The new carpet is not. Just curious as to how it cam from the factory. Does anybody know? Thanks

Not sure if it is the same for all years, but the original carpet in my 1971 had holes about the size of the bolts for the seatbelts. I used a small soldering iron to make the holes. Just push a pick or screwdriver through and follow it with the hot soldering iron.
OEM was cut out I believe but I personally think that leaving it uncut will give a more finished look (even though it's udnerneath the seat. If anything cut it to where it's a flap so that if you ever need to replace the seatbelt you don't have to pull up the carpet

Thanks all for the good info. Hopefully won't have to mess with the seat belts. Had them rebuilt from ssnakeoyl.
This is how I've done it: You'll want to cut the carpet so that it tucks under the plastic about an inch around the edge. You'll notice that the plastic is formed with some relief to do this. Any more than that, and you'll have a really hard time lining up the screws and getting the plastic piece to fit snugly to the floor. The carpet is too thick. I recommend cleaning up and possibly repainting the body area where the carpet does not cover up to the door plate. For a crisp look, remove the seat belt guide first, and leave its metal finish alone. Also, behind the plastic, don't cut the carpet for the seat frame/bolt until after the plastic piece is in. Then, trim it to make it like a flap that can be re-positioned over the seat bolt and frame. Same with the other seat frame/bolt areas.
