we purchased 1972 C3 and found out that the entire rear suspension system is aligned to the left by 1/2 inch. The rear left tire is stickin out and the right rear is stickin in. Any suggestions on how to correct this problem??? neeed help.... thanks

I'm interested in seeing what other think about this but if you know anything at all about the rear suspension under this car you already know there's no way to simply "adjust" it a 1/2 inch to the right.

If you want a definitive answer you're going to have to post pictures. If there's a visible answer then the experts can hopefully identify it for you.

The trailing arms have shims in the front that can adjust the toe-in and the strut bars can be adjusted for the camber. It could be that you have a bent trailing arm and bent strut bars.

You need to check the length of the half shafts. You could have a problem there as well.

These cars were not babied.

Pictures are definitely going to help other diagnose your issues.

With no pictures well we all need them. But try measureing from the in side wheel to the trailing arm, the same cool. Now measure from the trailing arms to the strut rod mounting on the bottom of the rear end, all cool, well now I would pull the sill plates located just inside the doors and pull the red plugs out and look and see if the two holes line up, they are different sizes but you can still see if they are close. There are only two, one on each side that go all the way through. If the holes are off then you would loosen the body mounts and move the body around until straight. Good luck in what you find.

I have a thought on this, can the trailing arm shims be put in the outside of one are, and the inside of the other arm? It would seem like that would push the rear end to one side.

If it were my car, the first thing I would do is take it to a good body shop with a frame machine, and have them check to see if it is straight and square. Then go from there. Good luck. Please keep us updated, this might be interesting.

As mentioned many times before, lots of these cars were 1/2" offset when they came off the assembly line. This car has probably always been that way.

Probably body alignment on the frame and not the suspension. My advice is not to assume it's the suspension. Take the car to an alignment shop and have them check it.

Any update on this. I also have the same problem but my right tire sticks out and left tucked in. Just wondering if you figured out your problem?

Ditto on my 68. It is body mounting on the frame, not rear suspension.

Would this also cause one rear fender th be slightly higher(1/4") than the other--if a new spring and the frame is OK?
