Because you then have the best of both worlds- The beautiful body lines of a C3, and a nice performing car
X2
I love all Corvettes, but the lines of a C3 are certainly AWESOME. When it comes down the road it's immediately recognizable. The newer cars look very similar and can be mistaken from 300 yards.
Improved ride = new suspension
Improved handling = new suspension bushings and larger diameter wheels.
Performance and MPG = LSX motor and O/D transmission.
Vintage Air = creature comfort
Believe me in the UK hes not going to need AC much!
Almost every issue of a Corvette theme magazine has a story on a C2/C3 Restomod. Most of them come from someone finding a basket case body that is missing the engine, has a completely rusted out frame or other deadly issue. They make beautiful cars with all the latest power and comfort.
Anything can be done, it's just a matter of how much you want to spend.
The only differences are that it now has a LS1 engine, a T56 transmission and a VB&P Street & Slalom suspension. I had to replace the frame due to rust, but otherwise any other modifications are very easy to revert to stock condition.
Do a search for my car. On my cell at the moment so its not really practical for me to do it. But I fuel injected my 350 which I stroked to 383. Rack an pinion setup. And a street slalomn suspension. Hot rod air ac setup. And a custom stereo. It's really really really expensive. And a huge pita. But they are fun. Haha. I honestly don't know if I Wouk do it again. I might would rather build a superformance. Or something similar.

IMO, the best of both worlds is to own a unmolested C3 and a C6. But, thats just me. It would probably end up costing about the same as completely re-doing a 30 year old C3 anyways.
If you have the money, you can certainly fully modernize any car. Just realize you will likely never sell it for what you put into it.
