Default Turn Signal Switch Question

While un-Bubba-fying the horn contacts on my 77 coupe, I was struck by a case of mission-creep. While the column is apart, I'd like to fix another nagging issue. When applying the turn signals, the lever rotates, turning on the wipers. Is this the turn signal switch? Also, does anyone know the thread size of the internal column threads for depressing the lock plate? I think I read that they were metric, but I can't find where I read it...

It is not the turn signal switch, it is the dimmer pivot/wash wipe switch that you want. The dimmer pivot attaches to the turn signal switch, but the complaint that you describe would be the 1977 only combination dimmer pivot/wash wipe switch.

I only found one and possibly a second supplier of the switch.
Corvette Central #563014
and possibly
Wilcox 30020

Are you asking about the Allen screw that needs to be threaded into the end of the upper steering shaft so that it is locked in place and you can then use the locking plate compressor tool?

If so, you need a #29 Allen screw (or a 5/16-18 UNC set screw).

Thanks Jim, I've read your papers, what a great asset to the community! The reason I asked about the bolt is that I don't have the correct tool for the lock plate, so I was trying to figure a way to use the steering wheel puller in it's place.

I tried the 563014 number and came up with the turn signal lever, could it be 593065, dimmer switch, or 593037, windshiled washer switch?

You need both the allen screw Jim mentioned and a lock plate tool for the job if you have a tilt/tele column. If you live anywhere near an AutoZone you can rent a lock plate tool for $0 so there is no need to improvise.

I don't know where I originally got the Corvette Central part number. Here is a number I have found in one of their later catalogues:

593037 1977 Wiper Switch with/T&T in Steering Column

You didn't mention, but I assume that you have a T&T column.

BTW, the same switch is used on the Chevette steering column.
