I'm putting a ZZ4 into my small block '69. Instead of grinding the original exhaust manifold (EM) ports to match the "D" port heads on the new motor, would these "early" EM's available from Speedway work? I'd like to keep the original EM attached to the original block. I'd grind these to match the D ports on the ZZ4 motor.
PS. Any guess if this (early type) manifold has the same dimentions as the (later type) original? Wondering if the original exhaust will bolt-up exactly?

I replace my original manifolds, which were on my ZZ4, with a set of Sanderson D-port block huggers when one of my manifolds cracked. You should have no problem bolting up the originals to the ZZ4. But unless your goal is to get your front bumper across a line slightly before the next guy, I don't know that I would spend the money (unless of course your manifold cracks)
On those Sanderson's - the original exhaust pipes don't bolt up to them without mod's, do they? My original exhaust manifold would need some grinding on those 2 "small flats" that touch the valve covers on the ZZ4 motor. I never saw that anyone mentioned that previously.

Valve cover fit was a problem with the original manifolds. The PO had bubba'd a solution with a lot of sealer (didn't work - still leaked). The exhaust has to be modified to match up with the Sandersons. There is only one company I found with direct ram horn replacement header and they were big bucks!
