I know in 77 the cars came with the stainless steel horn button, Then they dropped it due to lawsuits.( I think thats the reason) My question is - was it a totally diifferent button? Or can I take my black one off, take the paint of it, and try to polish it like the early ones?
Ok, sorry for the mistake, not stainless steel but brushed aluminum. I also read that some even had the locking ring for the telesc. brushed finished also. Does anyone have both? Can you show a pic of it? Thanks.
How's this for a 77 horn button. This is the cover of the 77 Sales Brochure. I don't think this button ever made it into production.
As others said, the aluminum button was replaced because of problems it caused with reflections.
The later painted buttons are zink diecast (pot metal), not aluminum. Don't bother striping and polishing your button, as pot metal is not going to polish to an acceptable finish.
Thanks, Yeah I figured that out = pot metal. After I took it off late last night. I'm kicking myself for not grabbing the one I saw on the bay a couple months back. It went for 75 bucks! I'll keep my eyes open. I didn't know that the telesc. lever came brushed also. Good to know.
