Default What is this?

Under the dash of my -71 Corvette (270hp/aut) I found this device (see the arrow on the pic). It is located up high to the left of the steering column. It has two electrical connections, but I can't find any loose cable with a contact. The cylinder formed thing to the left of the device can be pushed and pulled.
I really appreciate your information of what it is.

I think its the auto kickdown switch, the rod should be operated (slide) by the gas pedal arm. (if it looks like this one) http://www.americanclassic.com/Googl...70NOS-1970.htm

Thank you for your reply.
Shouldn't the switch be operated electrically? I have not found the cables to attach, does anyone know how to solve it?

The switch is actuated by sliding the rod (when you depress the gas pedal), hence making a contact enabling the kickdown.
I can take pictures of my 74 diagram which shows the wiring, but I don't want to give you wrong info as well as we're mixing up years here.
Yes there's wiring on the switch which goes through the firewall and then (i think) to the transmission kickdown solenoid.

Thank you, now I got it. I found the cables at the transmission and on the firewall. They are now connected.
So the only thing is to wait for the sun to shine here in Sweden so I can take my babe out for a ride.
Once again, thank you for the assistanse.

I have a 75 with this same kick down switch, thing is it only works at WOT...is there any kinda adjustment for this? this switch is also hooked into the cowl vent on the hood to open at the same time. The only reason I know this is that I unplugged the switch and put in a pull switch under the steering column so I could open and close the cowl vent at any time looking for outside air. Worked good in the garage but on a road trip I pulled the switch and the tach went up to 5000 rpm. .I was going about 60 mph in drive.
There are 3 wires from this switch.Ground/kickdown/cowl vent I beleive.
Can I isolate the cowl vent to operate manually?
I am not sure why this happened. can you shed some light on this
thanks

Do what I did take out the air deverter and put the wires up to a red small side marker light ,then every time you kick in the four barrell the little light lights you only see it at night it looks really cool.It does not stay on for long.its only during the kick down process that the light is on.

thats pretty cool, I will have to give it a try.
I need to know if the switch on the gas pedal is adjustable or will only work when floored. Its hard enough to see never mind get my hand up there

The only adjustment to the switch is by bending the metal bracket it mounts on. Proper adjustment is important for the TH400 kickdown.
For the cowl induction, I just removed the flap and actuator so it's open all the time. No real downside to that.

thats what I'll do then, just remove the flap and keep the kick down plugged in. I just want the air to flow all the time any way. I dont trust trying to bend it and have it be right
thanks
