Hi all and thanks for having me here. I am posting from Melbourne, Australia and am in the market for a vette and would just like to get some feedback/thoughts as to which model/year/options would be the most ideal.
Now for my criteria......I am seeking a 3rd gen shape. Obviously 2nd gen were most sought after but I do prefer the 3rd gen shape.
Any specific year or things I need to keep in mind on my search for that elusive corvette.
I am partial to the 427/side pipe models but not sure how rare etc they were.
That's a personal like's kind of thing. In my opinion. I'd like a 68 thru 72 with the chrome bumpers. Second choice would be 73 thru 76 and third, the range mine falls into, would be 75 thru 78.
If you like the car, when you get it, drop a big block in. There is something about the sound of a big block that will be recognized at a distance.
Good Luck

Only 4,355 69 Corvettes came equipped with factory side exhaust (69 only option). If you want a 427, 68 and 69 are your only choices. When I was looking, I wanted an original 427 Corvette. I ended up with a 68 and really like the car. I like all of the 68-72 Corvettes. If you want a big block, you could get the 454 in the 70-72 cars. Happy searching
Maybe if your bored here with our over and over again small talk you should hang out in the more sophisticated Nova forum.
Nope...just trying to have other's be well informed prior to them asking the same questions, over and over again....without making any effort on their own. I think its called the "Weakening of America".
Regards my Nova....
Stay in tune....

So am I. Real 427 side exhaust C3s are quite rare. 1969 was the only year for C3 side exhaust. Out of 546,861 C3s produced from 1968 to 1982, only 4,355 were factory built with side exhaust. That is less than 1%. Are you looking for a real 1969 427 side exhaust or a fake one? Are you looking for the original motor or willing to accept a replacement? Are you looking for a worn out original project or an NCRS Top Flight completely restored work of art? Are you looking for a 4 speed or or an automatic? Coupe or convertible? Air conditioning or not?
The 427s came in 4 ratings: 390, 400, 435 and 430 (really 560) hp. Prices vary accordingly. What is your budget? We could be talking anywhere from a few thousand to five hundred thousand. Your call. Just to give you an idea, I wouldn't even consider selling mine for less than $50k. Probably more, but some other day.

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
