Default Trans question

Went under the 77 coupe today to change trans fluid and filter,found foam about 3 inches thick around the bellhousing,anyone heard of this before,I suspect Bubba had worked on this car before I bought it,any thoughts?

There should be a foam seal that fits between trans. and tunnel to keep hot engine compartment air from heating up cabin. mike.

i just installed the heat shield when restoring my 78. it's correct and not bubba at all. the reason you may be unfamilar with them is that by now not too many have survived to be recognizable for what they are when you look up under your car, nlol!
