Default 1981 Engine Wiring Harness

The wiring harness on this 1981 C3 that I picked up is so hacked up that I now need a new one. Does anyone know if a 1980 C3 Engine wiring harness will fit my 1981 C3?

Some parts of an '80 wiring harness might work on it, but I don't think it will work at all. '81 has the CCC that controls almost everything in the engine. Lots of sensors on an '81 that I don't believe were on an '80.

Many 81s have had the carb and distributor changed so the computer is not needed. They are all that is controlled by the computer along with the torque converter lock-up if you have an automatic. I would determine if yours is original and needs the wiring for the computer before buying a harness.

You need to determine what way you want to go. If you want to keep it CCC (original), which is the computer-controlled carb (sort of a early fuel injection idea), then what I would do is carefully remove the harnass and send it to Lectric Limited. The reason is, according to them, there were several 1981 wiring harnasses and only way to tell what you need is to send it to them. Now, maybe they've changed their stance, but that used to be how they handled the 81 harnasses.

I have the CCC system and I think it's a good system. Smooth idle, better economy. Plenty of books out on Ebay on how to trouble-shoot the emissions. But depends on what you want to do.

The 80 LG4 harness might fit since it includes the computer connections; regular L-82 and L-48s harnesses for the 1980 model year will not fit -- no computer.

My advice would be not to take chances. Purchase a new reproduction 81 harness.

Seriously, give these guys a call and get their take:
http://lectriclimited.com/

They make wiring harnasses that other corvette outfits sell. They will set you straight and give you ideas on what your options are.
