Default 1971 lt1

i found a 1971 LT1 Corvette coupe for sale in Massachussets. The person claims it is matching numbers , it is a driver needs interior work , has original dist and exhaust manifols have to be re-installled colour is Brown was originally orange .

is there away to check with VIN number and pad on engine if it is a real LT1 . Asking 12,000.00

VIN nimber 194371S106272

engine stamp pad number V12300GZ 106272

is it worth it.

thanks

There is no way to tell from the VIN number. That did not start until 72. Re look at the engine pad number. It should be CGZ not 0GZ as you stated. sometime the yare tough to tell. 12K for a true LT1 is a good price if it is not a rust bucket and most of the LT1 parts are there. The only thing of value on the LT1 is the motor and numbers. The rest is just standard Corvette

I agree with Gordon that the engine stamp pad should be CGZ which is the '71 code for the LT1 motor. There are other clues to look for in verifying if it is a genuine LT1. Start with the tach. If it has a 6500 red ine that is an LT1 only piece and not likely to have been changed by a fraud attempt. The universal joints are also heavier (big block style) on the LT1 with the more rugged U bolts hollding them down. You can alos look forward of the left front fender near the radiator support for the transistor ignition box, or signs that one was once mounted there. The base small blocks did not have the TI ignition. The LT1 did not have a radiator overflow tank. Most of the other LT1 features are all within the engine like the solid lifters, more agressive cam, heavy duty oil pump, special oil pan, etc. If it's real it's a good deal.
