Default 76 Wiper motor issues

My wipers were not turning off. I followed the suggestion of a forum member and bench tested the motor and tracked the problem down to being too much play in the center spindle that the wiper assembly bolts on to. The mechanism that parks the wiper motor was riding past too high to engage. I got hold of the wiper assembly and pulled it towards the rear of the car and it all engaged and started to operate normally. I could not figure out any way of adjusting this play, so now I am stumped.

Does this mean I need a new wiper motor? I am in New Zealand, so I cannot send my one back for a new core, so the brand new option is all I can get I guess.

Cheers
Kev

Kev.. did you do a bench test as shown in my video?

If you did this and the motor parked, then the issue is not the motor..

You can do the bench test on the car if you remove the bellcrank nut from the linkage.. If you need the video link please post again.

Let me know if the motor parked while bench testing.

Hi, it did not park, it just kept rotating past the latch mechanism. But when I pulled the spindle out, it allowed the two mechanisms to pass at the same height and then it parked fine. The spindle seems to have too much play in it, and I cannot see any way to pack it out to keep the spindle fully out towards the wiper arms. BTW, that is a great video, it helped a lot.

Cheers

As much as I hate to say it, in this case you need to get a motor.

Darn

I see that you have a new one for not much more than a refurbished one. How do they compare for quality? I know that some new parts (eg window switches) are useless and it is better to get original, is this the case with these motors? If not I would probably get new rather than refurbished.

Cheers
Kev

PS thank you for your advice

No problem.. use this number.. http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=22445

The supply of new motors is gone now so I pulled them from the site! Actually I thought someone had already done so... You won't have any issues with the part number above..

Bench test video? I'm sorry but I must have missed this one. Where could I find this video, please.

Thanks,

Tod.

Here is the link on the forum for the video. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...post1577404693

The test for the 1973-1982 motors is the same as the 1969-1972 motor..

Here is a how to wire it up for bench testing.. but the video pretty much covers 69-82.

I guess I'll fire up the video camera and do one for the 73 and newer cars.. if you guys can handle the busy hands..

I just wanted to again, say thank you.
Bench test on the motor showed good.
When I figure out what the issue is I know where I will be purchasing the parts from.

And all of my future parts.

Thanks again, Tod

1977, I purchased the car about a year ago, the windshield wipers were not working at time of purchase. The wiper motor bench tested ok, when I checked the plug on the car, the center terminal(terminal 2) tested positive however, from a positive connection to terminal 1 and 2 gave me no indication of ground in any of the column switch positions.

Thanks again,

Tod.
