Default Floor drains

I am a newbie and I need some help folks. Before someone jumps all over me, I did use the search function and couldn't find anything.

I am replacing the carpet in my '78. On boths sides of the floor boards in the middle, there is a large hole (about an inch). There is nothing in the holes and I can see the garage floor when looking through them. Shouldn't there be a drain of some sort to keep water from coming into the car when driving in wet conditions? Seems like water would splash up into the holes and get the carpet wet from the outside.

I am having enough problems with other leaks and don't want these to cause problems with the new carpet.

Another question, I am also installing sound deadening material and insulation in the car while the carpet is out. Should I make channels in the material so water that does get into the car can run out????

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that rubber plugs go in those holes. You can get a couple of generic plugs from your local warehouse store, or if you want original try the corvette vendors. I think the originals are cone shaped. The long ends point down. I'm doing the same to mine. As for the channeling, hopefully someone else can comment. I'm going to apply POR-15, then add some DYNAMAT, and new carpet. Good luck with the project.

Yes they should be plugged There are other vendors out there as well that have these. But here a link for you to check out. http://www.volvette.com/d-Interior-c...pan-plugs.html

Hope this helps
