When I purchased my 79 the tail lights were out of the car. Is it screws or bolts that hold the lenses in? The assembly manual calls them screws, but has them going into a nut, and no size is listed. Ive found some screws that seem to work but I would like to use whats correct. TIA
75-79 tail lamps are held in by a chrome plated, oval head, Phillips, sheet metal type screw.
I don't have the size or length here at home, but I may have it at work. If I had to guess, I'd say that a #10 x 1 1/2" or 2" long oval Phillips sheet metal (or wood) screw would be pretty close.
It's not actually a nut that they thread into, but instead a nylon insert, or tube, that snaps into a metal retainer installed in the rear bumper.
All the Corvette vendors carry the correct 74-79 tail lamp screws and the insert.

Thanks guys for the replies. The nylon inserts were already on the car. The po didnt leave me any screws and I was uncertain if it was a machine thread or screws that went into the nylon "nuts". I was able to find some stainless screws #10x2 1/2 that worked perfect.
