Default Do 79 Style half axles use "French Locks"?

I am installing the rear suspension out of a 1979 in my 73' rebuild. I don't have any references or assy manuals for the 79 so I need to know if the half axles use the french locks like the 73 did? Also, I am curious about the u-bolt that secure the inner "U-joint" to the differential, are they stronger than the block and bolt assembly?

I have a 79' Corvette Shop Manual, and it shows the French Locks on the outboard joint.

French locks were used on all 65-82 Corvette rears.

As far as the U-bolt vs the bolt and cap U-joint retainers, I would think the bolt and cap is much stronger. Chevrolet only used the bolt and cap retainers on big block rears, because the BB produced so much torque.

My 75 has the HD side yokes, is it safe to assume that it's either not the original diff or that the side yokes have been changed?

If you get a set of the caps will they fit on the regular spindles.

My '77 has the straps and the yokes do not have threads in the holes. I believe you need the yokes with the threaded holes to use the caps. mike...
