Ignition key has a square head the door key is round. The ignition key is for ignition only. The door key works all of the other locks. You will most likely have to replace the door locks to get a key. I replaced my glove box door lock so I have three keys to control.

If you have the build sheet (it may still be on the gas tank), it will give you the key codes. With the codes, just about any lock shop can make you correct keys for the car.
You can also order a copy of the original build sheets for you 82, from the Corvette Museum for about $50. Besides giving you the key codes, it will list all of the original equipment on your car, and the delivering dealer.

If you decide to order a build sheet from the NCM, read the disclaimer. They are missing a sequence of VIN's for 1982 and if your car falls into that sequence like mine does you will not be able to order one.
It used to be that G.M. had the key code stamped into the door lock cylinders, I remember this from my days working at a Chevy dealer parts dept. Although it is a PITA to get the cylinder out of the door it is an alternative for you to consider. Dont know if the glove box lock were coded the same but you'd need a key to remove that anyway. Good luck to you,,,, Peace, moosie
those a 82 corvette comes with alarm. i have a 82 corvette and it has power door lock and power windows. the lock cylinder i looked at , some has long tail behind the cylinder and some don't have that tail or stem. which lock should i get for my car. with or without the long tail/stem behind the cylinder. thanks
ok that nice but do you buy the key cylinder with long tail behind the lock cylinder or you bought the other cylinder without the long stem/tail
If I understand you correctly, one of the lock assemblies is for cars with the factory security system - there is a switch that attaches to (or over) the lock that takes up some length. Actually I think the longer 'stem/tail' is for cars without the security system switch.
