Default 78 Pace Car Value

The values on these cars seem to be all over the place. My dad wants to buy a chrome bumpered c3 and would need to sell his 78 pace car. Its an L-48 auto, with 33,000 original miles. All bone stock, all original, a true "survivor" The paint is showing its age in some spots (seems in the front are starting to show a little) The paint still looks really good though, and shines up great. Overall the car is in very good condition. I was originally thinking around 18k, but i've seen some going for 24k-ish. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

The problem is there's tons of PCs that are extremely low mileage.. and I mean really low, far lower than 33k, because so many people mistakenly felt they would be ultra-rare until GM produced more than expected. Many are in mint condition.

I think 24ish is very optimistic.

took a quick peek at recent auctions- this sold for 24.5 (minus fees) 4000 original miles.

And this sold for 16.5, 59 k miles.

both automatics.

Its all about a Pace Car with the most desired options, documentation and, perhaps, the right buyer. This past January two Pace Cars went for nearly $40k. One a 3k mile L82, M21 with full documentation. Buyer was Bahrain or somewhere like that. Another sold for something like $39k at the Mecum auction in Orlando. Nothing special about the car other than it was a poor touchup job that any NCRS guy would pick up on but still sold for some nice change.

I would estimate a range of $16k to $24k and like the other poster, not very optimistic about getting the $24k. A bone stock survivor with no options and 33k is a lot of miles on these cars compared to the inventory. A few weeks ago I was at Hendricks Motor Sports and looked over an L82, auto in the Hendricks collection with 71 miles. A nicely well kept Pace Car...NO leaks underneath like many I've seen.

The link below is to an article from a few years ago...and I would say still relevant when trying to price these collectibles. Keep in mind, Corvette's 60th anniversary is coming up in two years and we may see, yet another Corvette Pace Car, making it the eleveenth. This gives the "first" Pace Car exposure and helps to maintain those values.

"THE RIGHT BUYER" may be the most important advise you will find in this entire thread. I say that from experience.

Both Steve (Vettebuyer5869) and Tom (hunt4cleanair) were very helpfull when I was selling my Pace Car.
Steve was dead on with his estimate of what the car would sell for. I was offered as much as 10K less than the asking price. Needless to say I refused those types of offers.
You need to decide what your bottom line is and price the car accordingly. Keep in mind while selling in a depressed market hopefully you will also be buying in a depressed market. Good luck with the sale and finding the chrome bumper C3.
