So let me start by saying I love my car BUT nothing is easy ,I have a 70 bb coupe when I got the car the core support was rotten I put the new one in a pain in it self .. the core , the radiator and the shroud went in as one unit I attatched the hoses at the same time ,,filled the radiator up with antifreeze started the car just to find out that my water pump was bad ..... this has got to end soon ,,,so in closing how hard is it to rebuild the pump..
There not bad to rebuild, just a waterpump bearing and seal. The bearing has to have impeller pressed on and bearing pressed into housing. Make sure its to same location. Funny thing is if it has a WK or W or WKN in front of # stamped on end of bearing shaft it was probably made up here in Stratford. I have ground that type of bearing shaft years ago. Sadly I think there trying to make them in Mexico now.Good luck.
thats funny it has a wk on the shaft end . I have been looking at rebuild kits but none of them have the round cast impeller can I reuse the cast one I have. I know its the seal thats leaking from the front of the pump

Yes you have to reuse the impeller. And even though it didnt last for ever they were one of the best waterpump bearings made.
My car has taken my patience to a whole new level. My wife can always tell when I have been working on it because I have that look on my face. I don't think it will ever stop as long as we own 40+ year old cars.
It always seems like the smallest job takes the longest time I guess thats what you get when you buy a 40 year old car,LOL ... In the last year I learned alot about these cars and the first one was nothing is easy, I am blessed to own a c3 and to have a garage to work on it every spare moment I get . I plan on driving it alot so the time I spend on all the little things really counts ..
I had a similar experience. Paid big bucks for a Bill Mock rebuilt date coded correct water pump some 5 or 6 years ago. When the engine was out for it's rebuild recently, replaced a corroded outlet fitting in this water pump (that was not replaced by Mr. Mock) and put a new gasket on a very corroded back plate. Of course, after everything was back in the car and filled with coolant, a leak from the back plate soon developed. Had to take the pump off and make my own gasket out of some super-thick material in order to keep it from leaking. Evidently this big buck supposedly rebuilt water pump was never completely rebuilt. With these old cars, you never know what is going to happen next. Keeps life interesting.
Hang in there.If. it was easy everybody would own one.Its always going to need adjustments.at least thats what I tell my girlfriend.I still have the rear out of mine.adjusting it.
