So I just finsishe detailing my engine (sorry, no photo availble at the moment...haven't downloaded) and trust me, it's beautiful. I took a lot of time cleaning everything and painting. I used POR 13 engine paint hoping it would withstand the heat. Well, the center intake runers are too hot to hold the paint and it burned pretty quickly. From looking at photos of other detailed engines, it looks to be pretty common for that area to burn the paint off.
Is there an engine paint out there I could use to paint the center manifold runners (on each side of the carb) that will withstand the heat of that area of the intake manifold. The rest of the intake is fine.
That burn off is caused by the heat riser allowing exhaust gases to pass under the carb for better cold starting/running. I had the same thing happen and I don't think any paint could stand up to those temps. I wired my heat riser valve open to allow exhaust to pass through the passenger side exhaust pipe with no starting /driving issues.
Thanks. I wondered if that had anything to do with it, but wasn't sure. My engine is so cold-natured that I put a new heat riser in with the new exhaust. How do you go about rewiring it to remain open?
You can see and with your finger push the valve flapper down which opens it to the passenger exhaust pipe. I just used some stainless steel wire and wired it to the exhaust manifold/pipe flange to keep it open (down).
