Default Stupid Question

Sorry for such an elementary level question but I wanted to get it right.

I was putting my gas tank cross member back on and looking at my AIM it shows bolt, frame, X member, L washer, P washer, nut.

I understand that L washer= lock washer but what is a p washer?

also why i'm on the such easy questions why wouldn't you want a flat washer between the bolt and frame?

P washer=flat washer. On our cars these P washers are a little thicker than a normal hardware store washer and a little smaller in O.D.. They are kinda hard to find. I get mine at a bolt supplier, not at Lowes or HD. mike...

So even though the AIM doesn't show putting a flat between the head and frame you think I should?

It's not necessary but it won't hurt anything.

My '77 AIM shows no washer there either, but I didn't like that.
