Just joined this forum and glad to have found it. Just bought a 69 vette convertible - a really nice driver with matching #s and in great shape but want to have a good sounding stereo. I don't want to do anything that will affect the value and was hoping that their is a good quality stereo that will go right in where the original stereo goes so I don't have to have to cut or modify anything permanent and can save the original and just put it back in if I ever want to sell the car. Also looking for any suggestions you guys have for speakers or a good sounding speaker solution for the back that doesn't require any permanent modifications. I went to Ecklers but don't know how good any of the stereos and speaker boxes sound. Really appreciate any help you guys can provide. On a totally separate note, I need to get a car cover that is good for use in my garage (lots of dust). Really appreciate your help. Thanks
I have a '69 convertible as well and changed the original AM/FM to an AM/FM/CD player. I bought a reproduction console bezel made for such a conversion from one of the vendors...don't remember which but most vendors carry them.
You can pretty much pick and choose what stereo you want...I chose Alpine.
For speakers I installed a pair of Boston Acoustics speakers in the kick panels in place of the original speakers. I had to fabricate mounting tabs for them but it was no real effort to do so.
The whole things looks very professional...you can'y tell what speakers are mounted as they're invisible behind the kick panels. If I ever want I can change back to the original radio with no problem.

I purchased a stereo that was made to fit the stock console bezel. Sound quality is marginal at best. If I had it to do over I would change to aftermarket bezel and get a quality head unit as mentioned above. JMHO
I would leave the stock radio in place.Use your Ipod or MP3 player,a compatible pre-amp and amplifier hidden in one of the rear compartments, kick panel speakers in the front and box speakers in the back.
I mounted an aftermarket cd player in the rear and just plugged in my mp3 player to it. It's not very hard to wire up and changIng your speakers is real easy IMO. Going a different route now but it looked real good at the time, always got compliments on it
There are head units for sale that use the original posts design. This is a KHE-300 (50W x 4) from Ken Harrison Enterprises. Input is from a 2GB IPod Shuffle.
Thanks guys - really appreciate all of your help. Not sure which way I am going to go but leaning toward what you did Paul. You should try to patent it or something or make them in quantity and sell them. Thanks again all!

I am sure Ken Harrison has any unique intellectual property tied up with patents or another form of design protection! The unit uses CD or MP3; no cassette like a few years ago. I have about 70 tunes on that Apple Shuffle.
