Breaking a new windshield that is.
First time because I forgot the front fixation screws for the corner headers.
Yesterday mounting the stainless trim on the A-post. I had the special screws, did a test fit with the screws to see if they wouldn't touch but didn't tighten them because I was afraid to strip the hole. Put on the caulk, sealing strip bolted screw nr8 /8 and 'crack'. Guess that 1/4 turn to tighten the screw was too much.
Here goes my plan to drive this car in the summer, can't justify another 700€ to spend on the car, my wife won't appreciate it
Put an NCRS sticker over the crack and drive it anyway.
I know the feeling, I did a similar thing myself with a brand new windshield. I was so mad I almost kicked the thing out with my boot! I ended up putting a sticker on the crack and drove it for 2 years. 2 weeks ago I went out into the garage and the 2" crack is now a foot long across the windshield. I got a couple of years out of it anyway, maybe you can do the same!
Yeah it's more like a internal chip then a crack. Going to have a good night sleep over it what to do and how to convince the wife lol. On the bright side at least we know at what height it needs to be set as the fit with the trim (original parts) wasn't all tha bad compared to the Vettes I saw on a meeting during the weekend. Sorry for the useless thread I needed to vent, but when I put the trim back on I'll cut the screws.
Regards,
Nick
The windshield issue aside your car looks really great. I love the color and it looks like you have done a real nice job. Would love to see more of what you have done.
@ trimside : I called them this morning and you're right, to repair delaminating they usually drill a small hole and fill it with resin and then came the but, it can't be done when it's near the edge as they can't get their vacuum cup to seal. Good tip dho!
@Roco : Thank you sir, it's been a long road with more downs then ups but that'll be all forgotten if it's finally on the road. Some more pictures on my photobucket page, or in this forum thread
@PA : I'll try to get a measurement for you tonight. Might be a bit difficult with the oozed out PU glue on the side but should give a idea for what's ok on my frame
@ Rob : I actually got them from Ebay but I don't think they are actually Corvette sport mirrors, but more the firebird model as the angle when assembled wasn't all that great. That's why I had two pieces of ABS milled and painted to get the mirror level.
Thanks Nick, will be a while yet before reinstalling my glass. Just got the bird cage cleaned up and painted this week. May be shooting color on the body next week.
hope I can retain all these tips and facts I am getting thru this forum. Your car looks awsom. Jim
