The deck under the rear window of my 1980 is supposed to be a flat black color. Over the winter it looks stained from moisture inside the car. I can't tell what kind of material this is made of. It feels soft like cardboard. What could I use to recoat this to make it look like new? Thanks for any suggestions.
I'm right in the middle of doing this on my 78SA.
Did my others 2 years ago. They had that 'sticky' feel. They look so much better without the normal scuffs and stains that seem to accumulate on them.
It's fiberglass. Remove it, strip it with paint stripper rather than sand it to preserve the texture, and shoot it with flat black paint. I use rustoleum and a spray gun.
Remove one side of the halo trim in order to swing it out.
I quess it is what you call the window trim, as the luggage curtain rolls up and sits underneath it. Thanks for the tip, KapSA. I will give this painting a try. What about the rollup curtain? Can that be painted also?

The trim is plastic. It can be repainted. The luggage compartment shade is vinyl. It would have to be dyed.
If yours is vinyl, then you might want to try cleaning it first then applying this 303 Aerospace Protectant. Mentioned many times in the car care discussion groups. You do need to wipe with a cloth immediately and if any areas appear lighter than others just reapply.
