Default Hood paint issues '80 C3

The paint on my hood has bubbled and also sunk in some areas and for the second re spray. It is happening predominantly above the extractors so I am suspecting heat is the issue. Did the
C3's have under hood insulation as standard? Any advice on recommended insulation material or is wrapping the extractors the best? A common issue I am guessing.

The vettes did have insulation on the hood, you can get it from most venders. I am not sure that is the problem though. I have headers on mine and never had a problem with the paint bubbling. I went without insulation for about 2 years. I think your paint issues is with the paint and who it was put on.

the chrome bumper big blocks didnt have insulation so i doubt its from the heat. does it have AC? this causes hoods to bubble if the oil leaked and soaked into the hood. if this happened you will need a new hood.

I think there was just a post on the insulation..... i think it is a sound barrier.I have run without it for over 8 yrs without issues. I had my car painted in 2002. I now have some bubbles in other areas but I think it is due to the prep work.

Something under the paint causes the bubble. Likewise, paint will not sink unless the surface under it sinks.

This might be helpful:
Although both acrylic enamel paint and acrylic lacquer auto paint products offer specific benefits, they cannot be used together on car bodies due to their incompatibility with one another.

With surfaces properly prepared and under proper conditions, it wouldn't be a problem to spray acrylic enamel paint over acrylic lacquer auto paint; however applying acrylic lacquer auto paint over acrylic enamel paint will almost always result in wrinkling or other severe surface blemishes.

This is due to the solvent base in acrylic lacquer auto paint (lacquer thinner) being too potent for the soft materials used in acrylic enamel paint products.

Go up to forums in the red tool bar click on forums (drop box). Then to general corvette and it is listed there near the bottom.

no insulation, but it is painted with a thin black undercoating. mine still has the original paint after 31 years. the clear coat is probably gone and just the paint is holding up rather well.
