Default Brake question

Does anyone have a picture of the rod that goes between the brake booster and the master cylinder? Mine was not in any of my boxes and I don't know what the booster end looks like. I also don't know how long it should be. Any idea where I could get one? I have done some looking online but don't see anything.

Damn, just installed mine. It's about 2.5-3 inches long, flat on the booster side and rounded at the MC side. Haven't found a picture or where you can get just the rod...

Good Luck

here are some pictures of one I got out of a Nova in a savage yard. It is longer than 3 inches, but the end is flat. When installed it looks like it is even too short.

you can see it doesn't stick out from the booster much.

I figured it's only two bolts, so...
Here's what's hiding in mine. This is a replacement booster/m-c from autozone (matches what I had there before)
The rod is 2.5" long and 3/8" in diameter.

Installed

The booster end of the rod is correct.
From the looks of it you have the long style booster with the short style rod installed and it should work with a short style master (77 and later).

Thanks for the pictures shrekviper. That helps. Noonie by later you mean newer, correct? Mine is a 72. The well in the mc is close to 2 inches I think. I will messure it tonight when I get home. If I understand what you are saying, then my rod is too short. The booster end seamed to fit good. Just a lot of peddle travel.

Yes, your rod is too short to use in the 72 mc. You have the proper 72 booster.
You could use a later 77+ mc with a shallow hole in the mc and it will work. The only difference in the masters is the depth of the hole in the piston.

Thanks for the information, I think I know what I didn't know now. Just need to figure out if I want to buy another mc or find a rod.
Thanks again.

the '79 just has a rounded indention in the end where the rod goes. The '72 has a hole that is about and inch and a half deep.

Is the piston interchangeable in-between the two.
