I am getting close to finishing the restoration on my 76 L48. The pulleys that were on the engine before I started the project were some kind of local parts store aftermarket that didn't work right. (Alternator belt never lined up perfectly and I got snapped belts all the time.) I don't know if this was because they are the wrong size or what. This is my first C3 Corvette and it has been a huge learning process the whole way.
I need to know where to buy correct pulleys for the engine without spending an arm and a leg. Does Summit offer aftermarket pulleys that are correct? My car is equipped with A/C. All the engine accessories are OEM. I don't necessarily need chromed or aluminum, just something that works like it did from the factory.
I already looked into converting to serpentine but decided the OEM setup is best for my needs. Thanks guys!
I have the factory pulley's off of my '76 that had a/c. Their in good condition and just need a little cleaning and fresh coat of paint though the water pump pulley I did paint before I replaced them with aluminum pulley's.
After a restoration, now is not the time to skip financially with crap pulleys. If you don't take the offer above, I have NOS pieces, straight from GM...............
Purchase the assembly instruction manual (AIM). It shows the original pullies and lists the original GM part numbers. You can use the part numbers to purchase correct replacement pullies. Most of the Corvette aftermarket providers carry the correct pullies.
You will also find the AIM handy during the remainder of your restoration.
I contacted Summit and they have a specific pulley system by March Performance and it has exactly what I need. I'm going to spend the extra and have a system that looks as good as the new engine:
for me, it's a consideration of mine now to beware of too much shiny chrome...it sure won't be like it came from the factory where GM didn't pay much attention to that at all. It's a matter of taste but I think I have too much chrome on mine and I don't have chromed headers or much other than the shields, air cleaner and m.c. cover. It has taken me a while to get around to going away from the chrome.
