May have some overheating issues, especially with the weather we've been having lately.....without the hood on to deflect air flow to the rad, air will flow right past the rad without going through
I already went through this on the 68 when I installed the 383. Engine kept running hot till I put the hood back on....problem solved

You can still go.....just have Richie keep a new ZZ4 on the back burner for ya

Running hot was an issue on my 68, maybe not on 77's, I can't say for sure

You may try running the car on the freeway and see where the temp gauge stays.....you may be OK, but I would give it a try first

take him a case of his favorite brew

Were you having a mural painted, or just repair work?

I like that scoop on the blower, what brand it it? do you have any other pictures with hood on? I have same blower and was wondering how a small scoop would look going thru hood.

I'm having that little bobo taken care of on rear fender. And the Rick chip on the door from the c3 cruise.
Plus all the other little issues.
And while it's there I'm having the underside of the hood finished and painted with c3 flags. I was gonna have a mural done but no time. I need to cruise. Lol.
So was thinking of just leaving the hood for him.

But he just called and said he thinks he can get it done by thur eve. He just has to spray the black and do the flags. So well see.

The only time I drove without a hood was when I was moving from one house to another in the same town.

I was working on my 67 Camaro and I had the hood off. Instead of reinstalling it properly, I just latched it in the front since the hood hinges were off. I thought this was good enough since it wasn't a very long drive, no hiways or anything.

It was fine until about a mile from the new house. I was doing about 45 mph when the hood just lifted and went about 20 feet in the air! Thank goodness it didn't hit any cars when it landed right in the middle of the road!

It landed flat and looked to be in good shape. Everyone was doing well avoiding it, until this one guy in a F-350 purposely ran it over!

I learned a good lesson in why "Bubba" maintenance is NOT the way to go.

To answer your question, I'd have to agree that you just test run it to make sure your not going to run hotter than normal.

My 77 runs between 200 and 210 all the time, so there isn't much room for it to get much hotter.

George, if you have time to post the new paint on the hood, I'd love to see how it came out! In NJ, if a cop observes a car w/o a hood, they will issue a summons for unsafe operation of a vehicle. Not sure about Cali - so hopefully you are all buttoned up for your trip tomorrow!
