Sometimes after I drive my vette and stop somewhere to park it, it won't stop running when I take the keys out of the ignition. It takes it a few seconds before it dies out of fuel. And when it does this it's like as long as I continue to give it gas I vet I could even put it in drive and take off again with the keys in my lap. What could cause this? What needs to be fixed? Iv had the carb rebuilt.
Are you talking about dieseling? Where it just sort of runs and sputters til it dies after you turn it off? Or are you saying that it keeps running as normal? Usually when it is dieseling if you pump the peddle it will make it die.
How old is the gas in the tank and how long has it been doing it? Did it do it before you rebuilt the carb? Are you sure you aren't idling too fast? Have you checked the timing? Are the butterflys in the carb opening and closing properly?
You can try to run an additive through the tank if it is a new issue and see what happens, maybe you got some bad gas.

Dieseling, or run-on, is caused by excessively high idle speed. You need to confirm that the choke is coming off completely and it is not sitting on the fast idle cam. This is common where headers have been installed and the heat riser removed (of course confirm your heat riser is working properly if it is still in place. Next ensure that the electric idle solenoid is fundtioning and that curb idle speeds are correctly set with the solenoid activated and not activated.
Pumping the gas to stall it is flooding it and will lead to fouled plugs. Until you get it fixed shut it off in gear (auto) or release the clutch in first gear with a manual trans to kill it.
