where should i start looking.

from the drivers side door I can hit the lock (push it down) and it will lock both doors, if I hit up nothing happens, from the passenger side door pushing it up or down nothing works (lock or unlock)

It could be the switches, but first clean the contacts on the switches and then see if they work. If they don't you can pick up replacement switches at most auto parts stores. I replaced both of mine on my '80 last year.

I had a similar problem and when I opened up the door panel, found a frayed wire on one of the contacts. Ended up replacing both actuators, cleaning and lubing linkage and replacing one of the switches.
