Hey Guys, does anyone konw where the fuse is for the tach in my '76
L 82. Just installed a new board and filter. Tach worked a few times and quit. I hope it's just a fuse and not my new board. Thanks.
check the signal wire clip where it attaches to the distributor. Mine sometimes bounced then quit altogether and I checked the wire but did not unclip it from the distributor. When I took it in to have an aftermarket tach installed the mechanic unclipped it, found the wire inside the clip had broken, resoldered it and now it works perfectly.
The wire can get touched and bandied about with normal engine maintenance and over this many years, wires with incomplete contacts, six of 8 wire strands broken, etc. are not uncommon I've found. Had the same experience with the hot water temp sender wire behind the alternator off the block. It just came off it's clip that clips to the end of the sender. I put an entirely new clip on the end and all's fine. Maint. work moves these wires around as I said above.
Does the needle move at all when you turn the ignition on? If it does, then you have power. Have you bypassed the tach filter at the distributor to see if filter is the problem?
