Hi, folks, can anybody tell what model year a stock aluminum Corvette wheel came originally installed on using the following numbers and such on the back of the wheel?
AA180
SA091
ZA0100
14008687
western wheel
made in u.s.a.
chevrolet 2
15x8
Does the wheel have the area around the lug nuts, painted black? If so, it's a 76-79 factory wheel. There were 2 wheels used between 76 and 79.
The "1st design" wheel carried casting number 363768, and the "2nd design" had your casting number; 14008687. I think all wheels used in 76, were the 363768 casting, it's after that that it gets a little fuzzy. The Corvette Parts Book indicates that both castings were used in 77, 78 & 79. There were 2 different part numbers for 77-79 wheels, with a note in the Parts Book to identify which wheel to order, by the casting number.
The 80-82 wheels had a polished finish, with no black paint on the wheel's face (though inside of the slots, may be painted black). The 80-82 castings where redone, to produce a slightly lighter wheel, and I'm pretty sure they carried a different casting number (14022120????).

Yeah, I'm just curious because it's a 1980 car, and the wheels have (had, i removed it to look more like a stock 1980 wheel, plus I just like the look better.) the black painted centers, and are not clearcoated. I am pretty sure they are '76-'79 wheels, not the wheels that originally came on the car. I don't really care, they look the same to me, just curious. Thanks,
Kelsey-Hayes made the originals. Western made service replacment YJ8s for GM. Two different GM part numbers probably indicates two different manufacturers.
