Default 68 Horn Button?

So, I bought a 68 Vert and am finding interesting "Bubba" electrical problems including the directional switch, horn assembly, forward light harness splices, and engine harness butchered and abused. In looking at the supporting vendor sites, while ordering new harnesses and switches, I figured I'd get a new horn button since this one has seen better days. For some reason, none of the buttons I've seen look like this, so it's obviously not a 68 button - right? Any idea what year this horn button is? Thanks!

Looks like a 63-4 button.

I found this 63-64 @ Corvette America and looks the closest, but not exact. I guess I may have a 63-64 column as well?

I guess nothing is impossible but it's doubtful that someone went through the trouble to make a '63-'64 column fit into a '68.

Yea; my guess would be that your 68 horn button retainer would accept a variety of caps. At first glance they seem to be the same size.

Pretty sure I could put a 68-69 cap and probably more on my 65 if I wanted to. The steering wheels themselves could easily interchange from 63 up to about 75 with the right hub.

That does appear to be a 63-64 cap, with the black paint removed from the outer area of it.

The 63 column is about the same length as a 68 column, but I doubt highly that someone converted a 63 to use in a 68, it wouldn't be worth the trouble. They are completely different columns, and mount differently too.

There were an assortment of different horn contact/button retainers, used between 63 and 82. Other than the contact/retainer for the 76-79 "Vega" wheel, the diameter of the area where the cap attaches, is the same for all of them. As such, a 63-64 cap, will attach directly to a 68 retainer.

The 68 horn button isn't repro-ed. The one that most vendors list for the 68 (the one with the grained outer ring), is actually only correct for 69-75 non tilt/tele columns. The 68 button is actually closer in a appearance to the 67 button, but was black, not chromed. Either the 67 or 69-75 (non tilt/tele) will work on a 68, but neither is identical to the original cap.

Wow! Thanks for all the information - truly appreciated! I really like the way the 63-64 button looks and may order that since the 68 is no longer re-pro'd. now if fixing my directionals were as easy as this I'd be on my way.
