Does the cable release from the back of the tach like the speedo cable on a '72? I've got to replace mine and have never done a tach cable before. I tugged on it but it didn't immediately release so I stopped. Looking for advice...

Thanks.
Well, you almost need three hands to get the cable off the back of the tach. You have to press the spring loaded "keeper" while pulling the cable out.

Yeah, but the real question is just how the HECK do I get my big man hand in there to replace it. I could just barely get two fingers in there to even find the back of the tach...
You have to drop the speedo/tach cluster and the steering column about 3-4 inches (carefully). Then reach in from the top. Someone on the engine side to pull/push during the process is a great help. The firewall rubber grommet may be toast but can be replaced or repaired with black Goop.
I had to do it this way as a convertible has reinforcing bars under the dash. Even the smallest of hands cannot get through from below.

You must also be holding your tongue in exactly the correct position. Eyes must be squinted attempting to see in the dark. Mouth must be closed to ensure you don't swallow whatever is going to fall into your face.
