Default '68 only horn button

I saw a post recently that said the '68 had a horn button unique to the '68. Has anyone got one they could share a picture of?

I just ordered a new one for my car but if mine is original and they are different I may try and restore this one.

Here you go. January 22 built 1968. Paragon's looks right but you will have to match the interior color.

Thank you.

I'll have to wait until my new parts show up and compare yours to the new one and my old one, from the pictures I see at various vendor sites I'm not seeing any differences in the one they list for '68-'75 and yours.

I have always been told that the 68 cap, was a one year only cap.

Many vendors sell a repro cap, that they say is for use on all 68's & 69-75's with a straight (non T/T) column. But, this cap is made by Trim Parts, and they have always sold it as only a 69-75 cap, with no mention of it's use on 68's. If you go to their website, www.trimparts.com and search their online catalog for a 68 horn button, nothing comes up. If you search part no. 5073, the 69-75 cap comes up, the one the vendors sell as for 68 also.

The earliest Corvette Parts Book I have is dated 1970, and it lists using the same cap for 68's and non tilt 69-70's?

I'll be seeing a friend of mine later this week, who is the original owner of a 68. He has saved every receipt, and every part that he has replaced or removed from the car. If I remember, I'll take one of the Trim Part 69-75 caps (and my camera), and compare it to his cap.

I've heard the button is essentialy the same as 69-75 but there is supposed to be a difference is the first painted square in the upper left of the checkered flag. Some are white; others are black.

Thanks gb, take a picture of that original un-restored console flag too if you don't mind/

Interesting, I'll have to see what I'm sent compared to what I've got. I'll be checking every '68 I see this summer too.

I think that on page 8 of the 68-69 NCRS info guide and judging guide address that. It said that around early Jan 68 the horn button changed. Now if I only knew how to down load a picture of mine. It's a late Dec. car.

Sounds like I should be okay with the repo then, mine has a June build date.

I would like to see yours as well.

Interesting, it does add to the confusion. Speaking for myself anyways.

The lack of red paint on the flag to the left may prove me wrong once again concerning whether the console flags were painted or not.
If you horn button is in fact original.

Thank you.

I think I have an original 68 horn button in the box at home. I will pull it tonight and look at it.

December build. The red in the flag is touched up from underneath. The ring was bead blasted, just waiting for paint.
Part # on inside of ring is 1 then a quarter inch space followed by 3913953 Car has a tele wheel if that changes anything.

My 68 coupe also has the bright blue interior and the horn button looks just like this one, build date was May 8th.

Just found a pic of one of these weird buttons. Notice no painted console flag. This is an early car with the driver mirror full forward.

Later car.
