Default Paging Ernie Willcox

Will accept help from anyone interested.
Installing new carpet in my 75, cut pile. Have new rear compartment doors with carpet installed. The big question is what is the best way to mark and cut the rear carpet for door installation.

Thanks

Phil

Ernie at Willcox. I don't believe Ernie's last name is Willcox. That is the name of his business.

Install the two side pieces first. Those two side pieces of carpet over the wheel humps are a major PITA. At first, they don't appear to fit. DO NOT TRIM before test fitting and the gluing where the molded area of the carpet fits the wheel humps. Then slowly and carefully trim excess carpet. For ACS carpet, no trimming is required for the large center piece. DO NOT TRIM. I used contact cement on the lip under the rear door frame. Take your time and fit the carpet to the lip. Then 3M spray adhesive to glue the remainder of the large center piece.

Hey Phill-

Been on Vacation in Maine killing Labsta's...

I've always glued the carpet to the door and then trimmed... the issue is getting the trim back on the door over the carpet.

Years ago when the assemblies were not available we used to rebuild the RCU's. We would use an old door ground under-size... then lay the trim on a table upside down. The door and carpet were then placed in the trim. Next I would then take the undersize board and place it on top and sit it in a press. This allowed equal pressure on the door while it was being compressed. Once I had it down enough I would then insert the screws.

A real PITA if I don't say and one reason we always have customers in the shop just by the assembly vs. us rebuilding theirs.

And I guess I left my brain there.. because I just answered the question wrong.... .Clubby nailed it on the head though..
