Just installed an "O" ring caliper (from Ecklers) on the right rear of my 79. In bleeding the system I noticed a steady drip of brake fluid running down the inside of the parking brake dust shield which tells me one of the rings is leaking - the reason I replaced the caliper in the first place. I've got to believe they shouldn't be leaking right out of the box; has anyone experienced a leak right away and had it clear up?
Are you positive that the fluid is not just some slop from the bleeder valve? If so, all I can say is, brake fluid leaks don't fix themselves.
I just finished dealing with a stainless steel lined caliper that started leaking after about 3 years on the car. The fluid can leak around the liner if it loosens up, having nothing at all to do with the piston seals. Just letting you know so you don't pull all of your hair out replacing seals, just send it back if it is leaking.
I was bleeding the outside and the leak was coming from the inside of the dust shield. After ensuring both bleeder valves were closed I pumped the brakes and still got he leak. I'll contact the vendor. I stayed away from lip seals for this very reason!

Thanks for the advice.
they require more maintenance but lip seals actually seal better than o-rings

Well, it's either a defect of some sort in the o-ring, or it's leaking around the liner. Either way, ship it!!
When I rebuilt my SS sleeved calipers one seal seeped fluid. After driving car and putting some heat in the calipers the leak dried up and has not reappeared. mike...

When my friend did mine the spring, I had a leaker, but it did go away as Mikes did.

Well, I stand corrected. I guess sometimes brake fluid leaks DO fix themselves.
