Default Custom stereo mount question

I just finished my speaker box for my 75 and i just installed the carpet, now the question is how can i mount it against the back wall? what length screws can i use where do they need to be placed? should i use self tapping or what? the box is only 3inches deep, 10 inches tall and 36 inches long.

Mine has been sitting back there for 5 years. The only thing holding it down is gravity.Hasn't moved a inch.

If your mounting to the BACK wall be care full. Behind the back wall is the gas tank. I used sheet metal screws with speed clips on the back. There is about 2 inches of clearance.

Depending on how "thick" your box is I used a set of very small turn-buckles that went from the chrome loops for the t-top strap to the side of the box. Mine held a sub-woofer and some amps so it was actually ahead of the loops, same setup should work for a thinner box except pushing back instead of pulling. Place a piece of black shrink-wrap over the turnbuckle and it should disappear or at least blend in.

Sticking the "hook" side of velcro on the bottom of a box would keep it from sliding under normal driving?

Keeping your foot mashed on the skinny pedal should keep them firmly in the back

My '73 which I assume is the same as your '75 has a metal flange on the back of the rear compartment near the top. I just looked at that yesterday because I plan on mounting a sub and some speakers back there in the near future. There is a few inches of clearance between the metal flange and the rear top deck. I plan on using an angle bracket screwed to the back of the speakers and then to the metal flange. For support at the bottom of the speakers I plan to rivet (using boat Bimini snap washers) a piece of 6" velcro to the carpet wall and the bottom back of the speaker.

I'm using this amped sub due to space limitations and I don't need to wake the neighbors. I just want some bass enhancement to go with the other six speakers. The 6 1/2" velcro comes with the speaker.

Here is an example of the brackets from Crutchfield.

I actually like that bracket idea i may try that sometime this week my only concern is that this is a pretty heavy duty box, 3/4" plywood 36"long 10"tall, and 3.5" thick with a 400 watt amp and 2 6x9s how sturdy is that lip in the rear?

It's very sturdy. It's double layer steel. I can't bend it with my hands. I would think 4 brackets and lots of velcro at the bottom would hold the speakers o.k.

I built new speaker brackets for mine and used the same holes that were there for the carpet push rivets and the t-top loops:

They never move.

Wish I could come up with a feasible design box for a '71 vert.

if you email me ill send a picture of my set up. im 20 years old and i have a 2 10"sub set up in my everyday suv, but when I sarted rebuilding the vette i decided i wanted to go with a setup that wouldnt rattle any doors but would be plenty loud enough and give off a great sound.

if its just sitting on the floor and not mounted up like the one above, then I would just attach it with Velcro or something to keep it from sliding around and would make it easier to get it out if needed to be worked on
