Default reducing interior heat

What is the best way to handle interior heat on the drivers side. When driving my '74 its almost unbearable. The passenger side is fine. When
I pulled the carpet back by the steering column I could actually see through to the engine. Is this where all the heat is coming from? Thanks for any suggestion! Bruce

I would have to say yes, any openings to the inside from the fire wall will give unwanted heat in the summer cold in winter. To help with keeping heat out, I put a heat barrier between the carpet and floor, it made alot of difference. Hope this helps, Ed

Seems you're missing the interior insulation.

Cheaper then now it never will be.
Vettenuts has a introduction pirce for a hole set for only 110$.
Complete interior and also doors.
Just bough a set yesterday.
But other manufacturers/resellers they go for 179$, but for that the doors are not included !

C3 Pre-cut Insulation kit

This will solve your heat problem for good.

I put down Hushmat and Reflectix on the floorpan, tunnel, waterfall, firewall and some of the cowl. I patched all the holes and replaced the missing grommets. It smells better in the cabin and the heat is gone.

That's a No-No. You should not be able to see from the interior into the engine compartment.

Check your air dam. When I added mine, it made a noticable difference.

My '73 was hot as hell too. So I tore everything out and installed Dynamat for sound reduction on the floor, then 1/4"-1/2" Dynaliner on top of that for heat reduction.

I also installed some "Zero Clearance" insulation under the floor to block the exhaust pipe heat. It is self adhesive, hight temp insulation with a heavy aluminum covering. It can be bought from the mail order speed shops like Summit or Jegs.

If you have a clutch, there is a rubber seal around the pushrod on the engine side that is easy to replace.

One other thing, the steering wheel assembly is supposed to have three gaskets where it mounts to the firewall. A big one on the inside and two little donuts on the outside.

They don't call it a firewall for nothing. You don't want to risk having that opening, god forbid, the worst should happen and you get an engine fire!!!!!!

Post a picture of that spot and someone here can tell you what you are missing. If you are in the DFW area come on over I have a couple here that you can look at too.

G'day,

Not in a pre '76. They were all fibreglass.

Regards from Down Under.

I have had a lot of this on my '09 Z06 in plenty of rainy days. It looks the same as when I installed it 3 years ago. Although, I have to admit I don't know how snow affects it
